Arts Integration

Michigan schools considering a fully integrated and aligned fine arts curriculum now have a new resource at their disposal. School leaders at Concord Academy Petoskey are assisting other Michigan charter schools in the alignment and mapping of fully integrated fine arts curricula, development of a high-quality, comprehensive Internet resource, and implementation of professional development programs for new and aspiring teachers.

Characteristics of the Seven Intelligences

Linguistic Intelligence

  • Highly auditory (enables a student to hear the correct sounds of the words)
  • Likes to read, write and listen
  • Has a good memory for names, dates, places and trivia
  • Well-developed vocabulary
  • Likes to play word games
  • Likes the word-processing programs on computers

Logical-Mathematical Intelligence

  • Needs order
  • Likes to explore patterns, categories, relationships
  • Likes to make lists
  • Likes to work with databases and spreadsheets on computers
  • Likes math and problem solving
  • Likes crossword puzzles and strategy games
  • Likes to win

Spacial Intelligence

  • Sees pictures, not words
  • Likes art activities (painting, drawing, sculpture)
  • Likes movies, slides and photographs
  • Easily reads maps, charts and diagrams
  • Likes to do jigsaw puzzles
  • Daydreams frequently

Musical Intelligence

  • Sensitive to sounds in the environment
  • Enjoys listening to and playing music
  • Likes to collect audio tapes and CDs
  • Often taps and hums
  • Needs to express rhythms that are inside

Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence

  • Needs to constantly be moving around
  • Uses body movement to learn
  • Often twitches, fidgets and taps
  • Likes sports and active activities
  • Likes hands-on learning

Interpersonal Intelligence

  • Needs to interact with other people
  • Is inspired by other people
  • Has a lot of friends
  • Wants to organize, communicate and manipulate to provide harmony in a group
  • Feels empathy for other people and becomes emotionally involved in their problems
  • Likes cooperative learning

Intrapersonal Intelligence

  • Introspective
  • Self-reflective
  • Aware of inner strengths
  • Has self-esteem and confidence
  • Intuitive
  • Strong-willed and deeply opinionated
  • Likely to take a stand
  • Doesn't want people to invade private world
  • Doesn't always fit the norm (marches to the beat of a different drummer)
